Imagine if we don't use food additives in the making of this cake, the cake might not last longer. This cake are safe to be eaten after two month, but the texture of the cake started showing some changes like growing of mould was after 6 months. This experiment has proved that food additives are very useful to make sure the food last longer. This is very important because we don't have to eat this food in a short time, it can be any time that we like before the expired date. This concept have been used in the making of certain food that have their own season, especially the fruits. We can preserve the fruits and add some additives in order to make it last longer and we can eat the fruits anytime without waiting for its season.
